Why Senior Exams Are Important?

Just like humans, pets are more likely to develop health issues as they get older. Common conditions such as arthritis, diabetes, kidney disease, dental issues, and heart problems can develop subtly. Regular senior exams allow us to catch these changes early when they’re often easier to manage or treat.

When Is My Pet Considered a Senior?
  • Dogs are generally considered seniors around 7 years of age (5 years for large or giant breeds).
  • Cats typically reach senior status at 7–10 years of age.

If your pet is entering this stage of life, it’s time to start a senior care plan.

Our senior wellness exams include:

  • Comprehensive physical examination
  • Detailed history review and discussion of behavior or mobility changes
  • Weight and body condition assessment
  • Oral health check
  • Bloodwork and urinalysis to assess organ function
  • Screening for arthritis, lumps, or signs of pain
  • Nutritional and lifestyle recommendations

Based on the exam findings, we may recommend additional diagnostics such as x-rays, blood pressure testing, or thyroid function tests.
